Pillow inserts might not get much attention, but they're the unsung heroes of comfort—adding shape, softness, and structure to your space. Over time though, even the best ones can start to look a little deflated. If your pillows are looking more flat than full, here’s how to revive them—or know when it’s time to swap them out.

Fluffing
A little routine fluffing can go a long way toward keeping your inserts in shape.
- Massaging: Squeeze and knead the pillow gently to help redistribute the filling.
- Soft Punches: Lightly punch the surface of the insert to break up compacted areas.
- Corner Squeeze: Grab two corners diagonally and push them together like cymbals. This helps fluff the center without stressing the seams.
Feather and down inserts tend to recover their shape more easily, while synthetic fills can require a bit more effort.
Using Your Dryer
A quick spin in the dryer is another easy trick to add volume back to your pillows. Just place your insert (without the cover) into the dryer on a medium setting for about 15-20 minutes.
Pro tip: Add a dryer ball or clean tennis ball to help break up any clumps and encourage even fluffing. Always check the care label first to make sure the insert is dryer-safe.
Washing Pillow Inserts
Keeping your inserts clean helps them last longer and keeps your space feeling fresh. Luckily, many types can go straight into the washing machine.
- Polyester Inserts: These are generally easy to care for. Wash on a gentle cycle using warm water and a mild detergent.
- Down or Feather Inserts: Use a gentle or delicate cycle with cold or warm water and a mild, low-sudsing detergent. For best results, consider a second rinse to ensure all the soap is out.
After washing, tumble dry on low heat.
Time To Replace
Even with the best care, no pillow insert lasts forever. If your insert stays flat no matter what, has a musty smell, or shows signs of staining or wear, it might be time for a replacement.
We offer a full range of pillow inserts to suit every need—different sizes, shapes, and fills so you can find just the right level of softness and support.
